American golf ace Brandt Snedeker had reportedly promised to send the newborn child of his fellow American Hunter Mahan a gift following his three-shot win in the Canadian Open after Mahan withdrew from the tournament.

Halfway leader Mahan had left the Glen Abbey Golf Club in Ontario after receiving news that his wife Kandi had gone into labor.

CNN reports that Mahan' wife later gave birth to a daughter Zoe Olivia Mahan and Snedeker, who climbed to third in the PGA Tour's FedEx Cup standings, planned to send the newborn a gift for inadvertently aiding his sixth PGA Tour win.

Thanking Kandi for going into an early labour, Snedeker, who finished the tournament 16-under par ahead of American William McGirt in second place, quipped that he may not even have come anywhere close to winning if Kandi had not gone into labour.

However Snedeker commended Mahan for leaving the tournament and going to his wife's side, saying that such events are more important than a golf tournament, adding that he too had missed a golf tournament when his first child was born, which was the best decision he had ever made.

Meanwhile, Snedeker said that the win validated all the hard work he had put over the past three months, adding that he was able to hold up despite playing under high pressure in the tournament.

Snedeker further said that to win a tournament with the pivotal holes coming down the stretch meant a lot to him.

Snedeker is the reigning FedEx Cup champion and Sunday's win, his second of 2013, leaves him behind compatriots Matt Kuchar and world No.
