Netherlands midfielder Wesley Sneijder has reportedly revealed that he is happy to be one of Dutch boss Louis van Gaal's World Cup 'pawns'.

Despite Netherlands' progress to the last eight in the World Cup 2014, Van Gaal's negative approach has been reportedly criticised, with Sneijder only being effective in the squad's last-16 win over Mexico when they switched to their normal 4-3-3 from a back five.

According to The Mirror, Sneijder said that he is not worried about what people say, because he is not the sort of player he used to be.

The midfielder said that if one tries to see him as the Sneijder of 2010, and think he is losing balls and not giving crosses, one is right that he is not that player.

However, Sneijder added that the coach is satisfied with how he is filling his role at Netherlands.

Sneijder said that he plays in his position, does his job and like the other players he is one of the pawns.
