Social activist Kavita Srivastava on Monday condemned the incident of alleged rape with a 27-year-old woman by a cab driver and praised the victim for courageously fighting back.

"I condemn this incident, how could such a thing happen again, we haven't recovered from what had happened in 2012 and now once again. I think the present Delhi police which is under the Union Government, safety is once again a non issue because for this government safety is a non issue," said Srivastava.

"I salute to the girl; she fought back courageously, didn't keep mum, took photo of the cab and registered complaint. This girl stood up to say that we want to live with dignity and it's your duty to ensure that safety is provided," she added.

She also lashed out at the Government for not taking any measures for women safety and said that they need to be accountable for it.

She further blamed the Uber Company for violating all laws, and said that criminal charges are to be pressed against them along with the authorities who led such a company come without any back up office.

Meanwhile, National Students' Union of India (NSUI) workers staged a protest outside Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh's residence demanding his answer over the rape incident.

"The BJP during its campaign had claimed for women safety but didn't take any step in this regard, we want answer. We want women to be safe in both urban as well as rural areas. I appeal to the women and the youth of this country to protest against the government," said a protester.

"The law order has completely ruined, we want women safety laws to be implemented. It's not about arresting the accused but completely stopping such incidents," added another protester.

Earlier today, the police detained Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) workers protesting outside Rajnath Singh's residence over the same.

A 27-year-old woman working with a finance company in Gurgaon was allegedly raped by an Uber Cab employee on Friday night, when she hired the taxi to go back to her home in Northwest Delhi.

A case had reportedly been registered under Sections 376 ( rape), 323 (voluntarily causing hurt) and 506 (criminal intimidation) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) at the Sarai Rohilla police station and the cab driver accused of raping her was arrested last evening.

The police, however, arrested the accused last evening from Mathura.
