Terming the incident of rape of a 22-year-old woman in Meerut as shameful, Social Activist Ranjana Kumari on Tuesday pulled up the Akhilesh Yadav-led government in Uttar Pradesh and demanded for ensuring better women's safety in that state.
"There is total jungle raj (lawlessness) in Uttar Pradesh. Every time getting the news of all kinds of harassment, rape, molestation, girls are not safe at all in that state..... This is a shameful situation; the UP government has to wake up to this call because no woman is today safe in UP," she told ANI here.
Reports indicate that the incident apparently occurred on the night of December 25 when the victim was abducted at gunpoint and taken to a nearby vacant house where the four youths had gangraped her .
