Congress president Sonia Gandhi on Sunday accepted the resignation of Tamil Nadu Congress Committee (TNCC) president EVKS Elangovan.

Elangovan had tendered his resignation owning moral responsibility for the poor performance of the party in the last month's assembly elections.

Elangovan began steering the party after former union minister and now Tamil Maanila Congress chief GK Vasan quit the party, along with his supporters.

The grand old party could win only eight seats out of the 41 seats it contested as part of the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) alliance in the Assembly polls held last month.
