Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi mocked Congress chief Sonia Gandhi on Thursday saying she chose June 02 for creation of new state of Telangana as it coincided with formation date of Italy.
"When will Telangana and Seemandhra come into existence? June 2nd onwards. From where did they get this date June 2nd from? Why did mother and son (Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi) choose June 02 date?" asked Modi.
"It is because June 02 is also the formation day of Italy and that is why they decided to form Telangana and Seemandhra on June 02," he said, while addressing a rally in Madanapalle in Andhra Pradesh.
He also said that due to the corruption prevailing in the Congress India was now known as scam India.
"Government of mother and son has destroyed the nation with corruption. The nation was looted by corrupt people and therefore today is known as 'scam India'," Modi said.
"The elections in Seemandhra are not just to elect a particular leader or government, but it is about changing the future of the state. You have to decide if you want to make it a scam Andhra or skilled Andhra. None of the youth here would want the former. For ten years they (Congress) have been looting the state." he added.
