Congress President Sonia Gandhi has been discharged from Sir Gangaram hospital in a stable condition today.

Gandhi was re-admitted in the hospital on 17 August for a medical-check up, two days after she was discharged after the treatment for her shoulder injury and illness.

"Mrs. Sonia Gandhi was admitted to Sir Ganga Ram Hospital for a planned minor treatment procedure on 17th August 2016 , which she underwent successfully . Mrs Gandhi has shown good recovery and has been discharged. She has been advised rest, rehabilitation and further treatment," said Dr S.P Byotra, Vice Chairman (Board of Management ), Sir Ganga Ram Hospital.

After being discharged from the hospital she reached her official residence at 10 Janpath.

On August 3, while addressing an election campaign road show in Varanasi Uttar Pradesh, Sonia Gandhi dropped out in the last leg after she fell ill.

She was treated at the VIP lounge of Varanasi Airport by a team of doctors from Banaras Hindu University's Sir Sunderlal Hospital for two hours before she was flown back to the national capital at midnight and was admitted in the intensive care unit (ICU) at Research & Referral (Army) Hospital.

Gandhi was treated for fever, high blood pressure and dehydration.

Later, the Congress president was shifted to west Delhi's Sir Ganga Ram Hospital, where she was treated for eleven days for illness and injury to the left shoulder and made steady progress.

She was discharged on August 14 and doctors treating her at the hospital had then said she had recovered and her condition was stable.

The Congress chief was admitted under the care of Arup Basu, senior consultant, Department of Pulmonology and Chest Medicine and his team.
