Lauding the achievements of the UPA Government at the Centre, Congress President Sonia Gandhi on Tuesday said that her party's politics is about serving the nation with full dedication and honesty.
"Our politics is about serving the country. And we are doing everything that we can to serve the nation with honesty," she said.
Sonia Gandhi said the UPA Government had implemented many schemes which will be considered historic in the development of the nation.
"Development process generates employment, brings change in the lives of the common man and the states and the nation moves ahead. The manner in the flow of work and responsibility does not stop in life, in the similar manner the development process never ends," she added.
"We had promised the Food Security Bill. We had to face a lot of problems, but we fought all of the problems in the interest of the poor and weak. By getting this revolutionary bill passed, we fulfilled our promise," said Gandhi.
"Uttar Pradesh gets 76 lakh tonnes grains from the Centre every year. This will increase to 96 lakh tonnes with the help of this Bill," she added.
Sonia Gandhi further said, "We also passed the Land Acquisition Bill. Now, the land of the farmers cannot be taken away forcibly. It can only be purchased with their consent and correct compensation."
The UPA chairperson also highlighted the commitment that former Prime Ministers Indira Gandhi and Rajiv Gandhi had towards the nation.
"You have seen Indiraji and Rajivji work; they were worried about each and every individual of the country. We should work with the same intent," she said.
Gandhi earlier laid the foundation stone of Uttar Pradesh's first All India Institute of Medical Sciences complex in her parliamentary constituency here.
Sonia Gandhi, who was accompanied by her daughter Priyanka Vadra, performed "bhoomi pujan" near old sugar mill at Munshiganj after which construction work for the building has begun.
The project is estimated to cost Rs 1,000 crore.
Sonia Gandhi also visited the District Agriculture Science Centre and launched Tata Consultancy Services' (TCS) training programme.
