The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is all set to reinstate President N. Srinivasan. Television reports suggest that the probe panel has handed out a 'clean chit' to his son-in-law Gurunath Meiyappan in the IPL spot-fixing case.
In an interview with New Delhi Television (NDTV), BCCI treasurer Ravi Sawant said today: "The decision of the BCCI working committee was that Mr. Srinivasan would sit out till the probe report. No evidence has been found against Gurunath Meiyappan; so Mr Srinivasan will resume his post."
On Sunday, a two-member probe panel consisting of former judges T. Jayaram Chouta, R. Balasubramanian, had submitted their report to the BCCI Working Committee, which met to discuss it yesterday in Kolakta.
BCCI interim President Jagmohan Dalmiya confirmed that the IPL Governing Council would meet in New Delhi on August 2 to take a final decision as per the operational rules of the Board.
The probe panel was mandated to enquire into the roles of Srinivasan's son-in-law Gurunath Meiyappan, who was the Team Prinicipal of Chennai Super Kings, Rajasthan Royals and its co-owner Raj Kundra in the IPL spot-fixing cases that emerged earlier this year.
The BCCI has been inflicted with several controversies after multiple allegations were made against players and owners, as part of the IPL spot-fixing scandal at the tournament's sixth edition.
