'Stalin- Vaiko meeting was to win over sentimental people': Atul Anjan

Expressing his dismay over parties patching up for political convenience, Communist Party of India (CPI) leader Atul Anjan on Thursday claimed that the meeting between DMK leader M K Stalin and MDMK founder Vaiko was simply an exercise to win over sentimental people.

"I think the meeting with this is nothing but an exercise to win over sentimental people," Anjan told ANI here.

"Unfortunately, there is no ideological basis, there is no ground; just for convenience this is happening for the last three decades. And the corruption is at the highest level," he said.

The CPI leader also indicated that in Tamil Nadu the political battle is between the AIADMK and the DMK and the two keep changing allies with smaller parties in the state during the time of election approaches.

Anjan also pointed out that serious chargeshave been levelled against both DMK and AIADMK leaders.

"Both the DMK and the AIADMK leaders are facing corruption charges. If DMK's A Raja is in jail, so was chief minister Jayalalithaa. So one can understand political art and culture of Tamil Nadu is full of corruption. All sorts of low-level politics is there."

On Wednesday Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) leader M K Stalin and Marumalarchi Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (MDMK) founder Vaiko reportedly met each other at a wedding function fuelling speculation about a broader alliance against the ruling AIADMK in the run up to the 2016 assembly polls.
