Steve Carell plays a PTSD patient in 'Welcome to Mawen'

In the second trailer of upcoming movie 'Welcome to Marwen', Hollywood star Steve Carell can be seen dealing with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD ).

Steve Carell plays the titular character of Mark Hogancamp, who suffers from a trauma after being attacked by a group of Nazis.

He is shown leading a life of a World War-II illustrator in order to survive the traumas and carry on with his normal life.

The second trailer shows the physical struggle which Carell's character faces in order to recover from the attack.

In the trailer, he says "I got beaten within an inch of my life for no reason."

His character goes through a long process of recovery as he relies on medication and attends rehab to learn how to walk with a prosthetic leg.

To deal with his PTSD, Hogancamp creates a fantasy world 'Marwen' wherein he installs female dolls which indicates the women present in his life.

Further in the trailer, Carell's character says, "They kicked every memory I ever had out of my head."

"Everything from before the attack is gone, so my dolls have to explain the story," his character adds.

Those women include his new neighbour Nicol (Leslie Mann), who plays his friend, toy shop employee Roberta (Merritt Wever), a friend from rehab Julie (Janelle Monae), bar employee Caralala (Eliza Gonzalez) and his caretaker Anna (Gwendoline Christie).

The female dolls are seen protecting Hogancamp's fictional world.

In a number of intense scenes, the dolls are shooting which indicates Hogencamp's emotional and physical struggle to maintain his sanity in reality via the fantasy world.

His struggle can be clearly seen when in the trailer he says, "The life I once had was taken away from me, but I'm still here."

"I have hope and I have my town (Marwen) and I have my friends and I'll be okay."

The trailer ends with a silver lining as Hogencamp says "Anything is possible in Marwen."

The movie is slated to hit the silver screens on December 21.
