Gerard Depardieu's role as a disgraced politician in 'Welcome to New York' which is based on Dominique Strauss-Kahn will be shown for the first time at the Cannes Film Festival.
'Welcome to New York' has been a much-anticipated film but is not going to be shown as part of the official festival programme.
Producer Vincent Maraval told the American magazine Variety that they realized it was the perfect film to experiment with this type of release, BBC reported.
Maraval asserted that they will get to target the widest possible audiences at a faster pace, with a smaller investment and will preserve some kind of curiosity around the movie before the press started to reveal what was in the movie.
Strauss-Kahn quit his job as boss of the International Monetary Fund in 2011 after being accused by a maid of a sexual attack in Sofitel New York Hotel.
