Strong India good for Japan, says PM Abe

He further called PM Modi's economic policies safe and reliable

Expressing confidence in India's strength, Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe on Saturday said a "strong India is good for Japan, while a strong Japan is good for India".

"A strong India is good for Japan and a strong Japan is good for India," Abe said before attending the Business Leaders Forum here.

"Prime Minister Modi's economic policies are like Shinkansen-High speed, safe and reliable and carrying many people along," he added.

Praising Prime Minister Modi, Abe said speed of Prime Minister Modi in implementing policy is as fast as bullet train.

Expanding economic and strategic cooperation, Prime Minister Modi said: "India is a land of possibilities with excellent human resources and a technological base and Japan has been there at every turning point."

"Today there is a 'Make in India' movement in Japan with a $12 billion fund," he said.

He further said that not just high speed train, India wants high speed growth.

Shinzo Abe is in the national capital on a three-day visit for annual summit with Prime Minister Modi during which the two sides are expected to seal a Rs 98,000 crore deal for India's first bullet train track and deliberate on a civil nuclear agreement.

In the ninth annual Indo-Japan summit talks, the two leaders will review implementation of various decisions taken in their previous meetings and discuss ways to further boost trade and investment between the two Asian economic powers.

Abe will accompany Narendra Modi to Varanasi, where he will attend the Ganga Aarti at Dasaswamedh Ghat.
