Thirty five talented Indian-American students of the world-renowned Indian classical vocalist, Mahesh Kale's institute, will be singing the Indian and American national anthems for Prime Minister Narendra Modi at the SAP Center in San Jose on September 27, where he will be receiving a community reception, organised by Indo American Community of West Coast(IACWC).
"I am honoured that my students will participate in this historical gathering. We are excited to present their fresh Indo-American spirit as well as their firm grounding in Indian Classical Music traditions," founder of Mahesh Kale School of Music (MKSM), Kale said.
The Indian-American ensemble will be joined by their guru, as well as Jayanti Sahasrabuddhe, noted singer and daughter-in-law of acclaimed singer Veena Sahasrabudhe.
MKSM was founded in the Bay Area in 2005 by Kale who is a leading disciple of legendary vocalist, the late Pandit Jitendra Abhisheki.
"My goal is to bring to life the essence of the Gurukul system that I was trained under so that students of Indian Classical Music, especially the young Indian diaspora, can experience its rich legacy. By exploring music in a way that is relevant to their contemporary lives, students can relate to this cultural heritage, and our art and traditions live on," Kale said
Kale founded the Indian Classical Music and Arts (ICMA) Foundation in 2012, with a mission to preserve, nurture, and celebrate Indian classical music. The student singers are part of ICMA's Youth Squad and represent a selection of Kale's more advanced youngsters.
