The Sunday Times has published an official apology to apology to former Proteas Test skipper Graeme Smith, for posting a wrong story about him.
In the weekend newspaper on March 8, 2015, the publication had released a headline story, which had stated as fact in their headlines, Twitter feed and column 'Mampara of the Week' that Smith had advised his wife via SMS that he lied to her and that he had a "secret divorce plan," News24.com reported.
Following the incident, the South African Press Ombudsman ruled on Friday, May 8 that the Sunday Times should retract the statements in question and publish an apology on the front page and on its website, stating that the newspaper 'went too far'.
The apology appeared in newspaper's their May 17 edition.
