Congress leader Renuka Chowdary on Thursday said that her party supported the Insurance Amendment Bill in the Rajya Sabha for 'national benefit'.
"They [the Bharatiya Janata Party] want to take credit for the Insurance Amendment Bill; so be it. However, we supported it for the nation," Chowdary told ANI.
BJP leader Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi, however, expressed his happiness over the House passing the bill.
"I am happy that all the political parties faced the fact that the Insurance Amendment Bill will be good for the nation," he said.
Meanwhile, the Trinamool Congress accused the BJP and the Congress of 'match fixing'.
"The BJP and the Congress are in a match fixing, all of them are the same. Only the TMC stand has been consistent on the issue," TMC leader Derek O'Brien said.
Earlier in the day, the Rajya Sabha passed the Insurance Amendment Bill. The Congress supported the legislature, ensuring its smooth passage in the House. However, leaders of the Janata Dal (United), Trinamool Congress, Samajwadi Party and Bahujan Samajwadi Party staged a walk-out from the Rajya Sabha, refusing to vote on the same.
