Swamy dubs shutdown called by separatists in J-K as anti-national act

Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Subramanian Swamy on Thursday described the shutdown called by Kashmiri separatist groups to protest against Prime Minister Narendra Modi's visit as an anti-national act and called for strong action against such elements.

"It is an anti-national act. And I would urge the Prime Minister to ask his Home Minister to see that all of them are arrested in the National Security Act and the army takes control," Swamy told ANI here.

Swamy also took a jibe at Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah.

"We cannot rely on the Omar Government because he is a weakling of the first order. Most of the time he is in London like Rahul Gandhi, having party there. So, I think the Prime Minister should ask all of them to be arrested under the National Security Act," he added.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi left on a day-long visit to Jammu and Kashmir this morning. He began the day with a visit to Siachen in Jammu and Kashmir, the world's highest battlefield. He is the first Prime Minister to visit Siachen in 10 years.

After spending some time with the soldiers, he will go to Srinagar to spend Diwali with the people affected by the last month's flood. He will reportedly review rehabilitation measures and visit a relief camp.

Prime Minister Modi is expected to announce a central package for the flood victims before flying back to Delhi in the evening.

The Prime Minister is likely to meet delegations from various sections of the society at Raj Bhavan in Srinagar.
