Talks with Hurriyat only way to restore peace in Kashmir Valley, says JD (U)

Janata Dal United (JDU) leader Sharad Yadav on Friday said only talks with Hurriyat leaders can ensure a return of peace to the Kashmir Valley.

"They have said that there is everything in PDP-BJP alliance for governance. That means only mainstream parties will not be involved in a discussion over the Kashmir unrest, even the Hurriyat should be there. But from day one they are making an issue about it that they will not have talks with the Hurriyat. The Hurriyat don't have single view, they have different views. BJP itself has mentioned this in their agenda that they will have talks with everyone. If they want peace then they should talk with all kinds of peoples," Sharad Yadav told ANI.

Yadav said that even the Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh's visit to the valley have not brought about much change in the situation.

On Saturday, Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti met Prime Minister Narendra Modi and to discussed the current situation in the valley.

This was the first meeting between the two after the unrest broke out in the valley last month following the killing of Hizbul Mujahideen militant Burhan Wani.

The meeting comes days after Home Minister Rajnath Singh visited the state, where he assessed the situation on ground and held meetings with representatives of civil society, political parties, Pahari community leaders and several individuals to understand what needed to be done to restore normalcy in the valley.
