The Delhi High Court on Thursday issued a notice to the Directorate of Estates, Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs on a petition filed by the Jawaharlal Nehru Memorial Fund (JNMF) seeking setting aside an eviction notice. The court fixed the next hearing on November 16.
On October 15, the Estate Officer, Government of India, issued an eviction notice against Teen Murti Estate under Section 4 of the Public Premises (Eviction of Unauthorised Occupants) Act, 1971.
The JNMF, a charitable trust, moved the court under Article 226 and Article 227 of the Constitution of India and the Public Premises Act (Eviction of Unauthorised Occupants) Act, 1971, respectively.
Some of the objectives of the trust were to conduct and promote manifold constructive activities including promotion and encouragement of scientific education and research, promotion of international goodwill and understanding, care of children, women welfare programmes, ameliorative measures to improve living conditions in villages and towns, provision of basic amenities in rural areas and general welfare programmes to uplift the poor and oppressed.
