The Border Security Force (BSF) seized ten packets of heroin in Punjab from smugglers who were trying to trespass into Indian territory along the India-Pakistan border.
After receiving inputs on smuggling, the personnel were put on high alert at the Rajatal border outpost in Punjab.
The smugglers managed to escape taking advantage of night and dense fog.
"Our soldiers took their positions at suspected location, and then challenged the smugglers. In a counter challenge, the smugglers fired, and so did we, we fired 31 rounds. The smugglers managed to escape by taking the advantage of darkness and fog but their consignment was seized by soldiers," said Deputy Inspector General, Border Security Force (BSF) Punjab frontier, M F Farooqui.
