President Pranab Mukherjee hosted banquet for Canadian Governor General David Johnston as both countries foster goals for the promotion of education, innovation and entrepreneurship.
Johnston, who is accompanied by his wife Sharon Johnston, and other dignitaries held discussions with Mukherjee at his official residence.
The Canadian Governor General also met Indian Vice-President Hamid Ansari and Prime Minister, Manmohan Singh.
Earlier, Johnston said that the objective of his nine-day visit to India was to provide greater impetus to bilateral ties, including thinking of fresh initiatives in business, entrepreneurship and education.
This is the first visit by Johnston since 1998 and follows the last visit of Canadian Prime Minister Stephen Harper in November 2012.
Johnston is scheduled to visit Agra, Bangalore and Mumbai.
