Tendulkar an icon par excellence, says sports minister

Minister for Youth Affairs and Sports Jitendra Singh on Saturday congratulated cricketer Sachin Tendulkar for successfully completing his distinguished and inspiring career.

In a statement, Singh said: "Sachin Tendulkar is one of the finest examples of sportsmen we have ever had with love for the sport, humility, integrity, honesty and pure unbridled talent. His sterling performance across all formats of the game, from Tests, ODIs and T20 over 24 years is a rare feat of exemplary elegance, earnest application and commitment."

Singh described Tendulkar as a national hero whose achievements will be a source of inspiration to all sports lovers.

He further said: "Sachin Tendulkar's experience in the field of cricket would enthuse other sports disciplines. The Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports looks forward to working with him to utilize his expertise to promote excellence, good governance and ethics in all sports in the country."

The minister expressed the hope that the millions of fans of Sachin Tendulkar's game will take forward the message of enjoyment, passion and a desire to excel for high standards of integrity in sports.
