Terror attacks in J-K aimed at reviving militancy, disrupting polls: Raj Kadyan

Former Deputy Chief of Army Staff, Lt. General Raj Kadyan (Retd.), on Friday said the recent terror attacks in Jammu and Kashmir is an indication that the terrorists have the full support of Islamabad, and added that it is an attempt to revive militancy in Kashmir and disrupt the ongoing assembly polls.

Lt. General Kadyan (Retd.) condemned today's terror attack on an army camp at Mohra in Baramulla District.

"Two days ago, there was another attack in Tutmar Gali area, which is in Kupwara Sector, in snow bound areas. The militants who attacked the terrorists were wearing the latest uniform, snow clothing, including the boots that we ourselves required for the army in 1999 during the Kargil war. It is obvious in both the attacks, today and two days ago, that these terrorists have full support of the Pakistani army," said Lt. General Kadyan (Retd.).

"In fact, nobody can come in Mau area unless it is in the knowledge and support from the help of the Pakistani Army," he added.

Lt. General Kadyan (Retd.) further said the long-term aim is to keep the Kashmir issue alive and to try and revive the militancy in Kashmir which is dying out.

"The other aim is to disrupt the ongoing J-K elections. They do not want a democratically elected government which will negate the militancy effect. It could be some way related to the Prime Minister's forthcoming visit to Srinagar on the 8th of December," he added.

Lt. General Kadyan (Retd.) also alleged that Pakistani Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif has no control over his country's army.

However, Minister of State for Home Kiren Rijiju refrained from confirming anything.

"We are getting the report. Let it come and only then I can tell. Can't comment without verifying the facts," said Rijiju.

Four security personnel and three militants were killed on Friday in an attack on an Army camp at Mohra in Baramulla district.

In the gun-battle, two army jawans and two policemen were killed, while three militants were also neutralized.

Army officials confirmed that Army suffered some casualties but said the exact numbers are being verified.

The attack comes just four days ahead of Assembly elections in Uri and six other constituencies of the Baramulla district on December 9.
