The long-distance American swimmer, who calls himself 'The Shark' has reportedly successfully completed his challenge of swimming 35 km while hauling hundreds of pounds of bricks in an US lake near the Michigan-Canada border.
According to Stuff.co.nz, Jim Dreyer had been pulling two dinghies bearing 334 bricks weighing more than 900 kilograms behind him when he departed on Monday for the swim across Lake St. Clair.
However, the report said that 51 hours later on Wednesday morning, Dreyer was hauling only one dinghy during the swim's final stretch after moving more slowly than expected.
Satisfied after the swim, the 49-year-old Dreyer, whose swim was to raise money for a NGO called Habitat for Humanity, however, said that the swim had other symbolic meaning given the situation in Detroit, which has filed for bankruptcy protection.
According to Dreyer, although he had expected to finish on Tuesday after about 30 hours, waves along the way had slowed him down, with the report adding that along with the brick-filled dinghies, Dreyer hauled a small lead raft loaded with water, Gatorade, nutritional drinks and a crumbled cracker mixture for food.
Dreyer has made direct crossings of the five Great Lakes, the report added.
