England seam bowler Graham Onions said that he would love to revive his international career in front of his home crowd when the fourth Test starts at Durham on Friday.
According to Sport24, the Durham seam bowler had played the last of his nine Tests against the West Indies over a year ago but has been included in England's 13-man squad for the fourth Test of a five-match series starting at the Chester-le-Street headquarters of the county.
Although aware that it would be hard to force his way into an attack that have retained the Ashes 2-0 with a draw in the third Test, Onions, however, said that he is 'chomping at the bit' and is excited to be a part of the squad, adding that he felt that if a player is in the squad then he has a chance of playing in the future.
According to Onions, although he was disappointed not to be involved in the squad for the last game, he is proud to put the England shirt on at Durham, his home ground where he has played his entire cricket.
However, Onions, who was born just some 10 miles from Chester-le-Street, admitted that he is a little nervous, although he added that his excitement overrode his nerves as he believed that the prospect of playing Test match cricket again, especially in front of home crowd, will be fantastic.
Onions further said that although as a cricketer he wants to play every game, he is also realistic he would not be able to if he plays all three formats, adding that for a player like himself whose forte is the red ball, it is necessary to force his way into the side.
Onions also said that it is a great honour for him and a privilege to be a part of the squad with Chris Tremlett and some youngsters coming in as well.
Onions has struggled to hold down a place in a competitive England seam-bowling line-up but has been in excellent form this season, taking 47 first-class wickets at an average of just over 21 apiece, the report added.
