Samajwadi Party (SP) chief Mulayam Singh Yadav on Thursday appealed to the people to support the party, stating that there would be no government in Delhi without the Samajwadi Party after the upcoming elections.
He also urged the youth to stand up against corruption and walk the path of righteousness.
"The upcoming elections will be significant in your lives. These are no ordinary elections, and the Samajwadi Party will have an important role to play. If all of you, in consensus, help us win more seats in the upcoming elections, there will be no government in Delhi without the Samajwadi Party," he said while addressing a rally here today.
When our manifesto was out, people made fun of it. But we have fulfilled the promises that we made. If there is a model government anywhere in India, which thinks of farmers and poor, then is the Samajwadi Party government in UP," he added.
Yadav also described Bharatiya Janata Party's (BJP) prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi as communal, and asked the saffron outfit whether Modi was their only option for the prime minister's post.
"Narendra Modi wants to make another Gujarat? Did BJP have only him as an option for the post of the prime minister? Didn't they get anyone else? His hands are bloodied with the atrocities committed on women, who were assaulted. Am I competing with such a man? And then they say that it's a face-off between the Samajwadi Party and the Bharatiya Janata Party. No one has ever said that it is a face-off between Modi and Mulayam Singh Yadav," he said.
He also accused the ruling Congress Party of corruption, and asked whether they have done anything else apart from scams, injustice and inflation.
"Today also, the Congress rules at the Centre. Tell me what have they done in the last five years? What have they done apart from scams, injustice, inflation and corruption? Inflation and corruption has eroded the nation. I was there in the Lok Sabha for five years. The argument has always been about inflation and corruption," he added.
Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav, who was also present at the rally, said: "People would certainly want that a farmer-friendly government comes to power at the Centre. Looking at present political situation in the country, I feel Samajwadi Party is going to play a crucial role in the government.
