Prime Minister Manmohan Singh will inaugurate India Telecom - 2013 at Vigyan Bhawan on Thursday.
The three-day international exhibition-cum-conference is being organized by the Department of Telecommunications (DoT) in collaboration with FICCI.
The theme of the event this year will be: 'Internet of People to Internet of Things - Future of Communications'.
Announcing this, M. F. Farooqui, Secretary, Department of Telecom (DoT), said that 'India Telecom - 2013' is being organized to facilitate improved dialogue between the government, industry and academia on how to achieve the full potential of M2M and new-age communication technologies in India.
He said the purpose of the conference is to highlight the next generation technologies that will soon transform the world as we see today by creating greater value for all organizations and promote increased economic productivity, besides bringing a new level of convenience to our lives.
He said that 'India Telecom' series was successfully launched in 2006 to showcase the strengths and provide a platform for investors and businesses to collaborate and explore partnerships in the Indian telecommunication industry.
After completing seven successful editions, 'India Telecom' has today emerged as an important event in the telecom industry.
This year's conference will aim to capture key existing as well as emerging subjects pertaining to the industry under its six thematic session's viz.:
a) Realizing the benefits of M2M, Smart Cities and The Internet of Things
b) Enabling policy framework for next phase of telecom revolution
c) Convergence of network, services and devices: Regulatory and Policy framework
d) Towards a New Digital enablement
e) Smart Devices and applications
f) Power the Tower

For the first time ever, state governments will partner DoT and FICCI in 'India Telecom- 2013'.
Gujarat and Maharashtra are participating as partner states to showcase the incentives offered by states for investment, connectivity to rural areas, new technologies innovative approach in ICT sector, which promises to make available affordable, reliable and secure telecommunication and broadband services. Partnership with States is recognition of their role and contribution to the growth and well-being of the telecom sector.
The event will also have the launch of the report on Indian telecom sector covering both macro and micro economic trends of industry.
It will also discuss the possibilities emerging from the new world of 'Internet of Things'.
During this event, for the first time, a roundtable of states 'is also proposed to be organized.
This would be an occasion for the central government and states to share their vision for the growth of the telecom sector.
A roundtable of CEOs and captains of the telecom industry will be chaired by Communications and IT Minister Kapil Sibal.
So far, 100 delegates and 100 exhibitors have confirmed their participation.
Canada and Korea are participating in the exhibition through country pavilions, while 14 other countries, including France, USA, Japan, Germany and Estonia are participating with their industries.
On the sidelines of the event, the Telecom Equipment and Service Export Promotion Council (TEPC) is organizing the 5th Reverse Buyer Seller Meet (RBSM) on December 6.
With a view to increasing export of telecom equipment and services, TEPC has invited more than 40 buyers from more than 18 countries, like, South Africa, Djibouti, Nigeria, Kenya, Uganda, Ghana, Tanzania, Philippines, Cambodia, Egypt, Mexico, Colombia, Brazil, Zambia, Mauritius, Thailand, Malaysia, Vietnam etc. to participate.
