Three members of a family were killed in a landslide in the Sabroom area of Tripura.
The landslide has been attributed to the incessant rainfall that Tripura has been witnessing for the past few days. "Yesterday, it started raining very heavily and suddenly there was a land slide. Three of the family members died as they did not get enough time to run out", said Shanti Chandra, a survivor.
According to Rajib Dutta, Sub Divisional Magistrate, Sabroom, "Two children died on the spot. We, from the police and the civil administration, rushed to the spot. We retrieved the bodies with the help of the fire service department".
"The postmortem has been done. Initially we helped them with Rs 9500 each for them to carry out the last rites. Later on, we will help them as and when required," added Dutta.
