The director of Indian Meteorological Department (IMD), B.P. Yadav, on Sunday said that thundershowers are likely to continue in north-western parts of the country.
"We had said that pre-monsoon showers will begin over parts of north-west India from 21st June and that has happened today. We have rains over Punjab, Haryana, west Uttar Pradesh, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Delhi. These are due to the strong westerly winds bringing lot of moisture over the region. We expect that these thundershowers over north, west India are likely to continue," Yadav told ANI.
Showers swept across the national capital today, thereby giving much needed respite to the people from the sweltering heat. It began to rain in Delhi just minutes after the International Yoga Day event ended at the Rajpath. Showers brought the temperatures down in the national capital and adjoining states of Punjab and Haryana.
Rains lashed Chandigarh (5.3mm), Ambala (3.4mm), Kurukshetra (2mm), Mohali (5mm), Hoshiarpur (8mm) among other places.
