Tibetan govt. in-exile expresses condolence for Uttarakhand flood victims

The Tibetan government in-exile has conveyed its condolences over the loss of life and property due to heavy downpour, flash floods and landslides in Uttarakhand.

Spokesperson of the Tibetan government in-exile, Tashi Phuntsok said that the Tibetan government in-exile government along with its supreme spiritual leader, the Dalai Lama, have shared their grief.

"It is very sad that over 1000 people have lost their lives and many are still stranded. The Central Tibetan Administration has expressed its deep sorrow over the tragedy and as a token of our solidarity, the Central Tibetan Administration has donated rupees 3,00,000 to the Chief Minister's Relief Fund," Phuntsok said.

"And also, yesterday His Holiness (The Dalai Lama) returned from New Zealand and Australia from an extended visit and as soon as he reached here, he issued a statement expressing his deep sadness over the tragedy in Uttarakhand,", Phuntsok added.

Phuntsok also mentioned that the Dalai Lama has also personally conveyed his condolence messages to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and Uttarakhand Chief Minister Vijay Bahuguna.

"He (The Dalai Lama) has written to the Prime Minister (Manmohan Singh) as well as the Chief Minister of Uttarakhand (Vijay Bahuguna) expressing his deep sorrow over the tragedy and also expressing his desire to share the suffering of the people by donating in the relief funds. And Tibetans have been praying and there has been a prayer in Dharamsala as well as in Uttarakhand itself in Dehradun and Rajpur where Tibetans live in large numbers," added Phunstok.
