Tamil Nadu Chief Minister O. Panneerselvam on Tuesday wrote to Prime Minister Narendra Modi urging him to direct the Water Resources Ministry to advise the Kerala Government to stop the construction work of check dams across Bhavani River.
Earlier on Saturday, people from different walks of life formed human chains here protesting the construction of check dams.
They opposed the construction stating it would affect irrigation and drinking water availability in the districts of Coimbatore, Tirupur and Erode.
Earlier on January 18, the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) urged Panneerselvam to speak to Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan and ask him to stop construction of the same.
