Toshiba reveals its plans for 2015, to target global healthcare market

While announcing its mid-term strategy plan towards 2015, Toshiba, a Japanese multinational engineering and electronics conglomerate, has said that its focus will be on the emerging global healthcare market.

Hisao Tanaka, President and CEO of Toshiba, described healthcare and medical as the third pillar of the business where advanced medical technology is required.

Toshiba is a leader in manufacturing healthcare equipments, including CT scanner, X-ray system and MRI etc. Its equipments are sold in more than 135 countries.

Predicting the world population to be 10 billion by 2050, when one out of every five people will be aged, the company focuses on products that will offer comfortable living. It includes medical equipments, efficient energy supply, CO2 reduction and safe water, air and food.

The company forecasts 2015 sales to be to the tune of seven trillion Yen ($70 billion) through an annual growth rate of 7.1 per cent.

Toshiba, which makes flash memory chips to steam turbines, has progressive plans to emphasize on smart community considering energy consumption.

The company has plans to infuse computing power and technology into all aspects of society, including healthcare, transportation, infrastructure, power generation and energy management.

Toshiba holds 50,000 patents and intends to apply developed technology to new fields. The company will target developing countries by marketing its products including UV sterilizing, filter and rechargeable battery technology etc.
