Trade fair in Jalpaiguri to boost ties with neighbouring countries

People from neighbouring countries took part in seven-day Trade Fair in Jalpaiguri district of West Bengal province on Sunday, which aims to boost cultural and social relations.

Department of commerce along with the state government organised the fair in which countries like Bangladesh took part.

"This year there are 110 stalls at the fair and all kinds of items necessary for homes and businesses are available here," said Joint Secretary, North-Bengal Chamber of Commerce and Industries, Bikash Das.

People from different states of India like Assam, Gujarat and Uttar Pradesh took part in the fair.

Meanwhile, Das said that the more countries will be invited in the next edition.

"We want our neighbouring countries to participate in this trade fair so that there is a boost in cultural and social relations. We invited Bangladesh and it comes every year. We also invited Bhutan but unfortunately, it couldn't come. We want to invite more neighbouring countries next year," said Das.

Most of the visitors gathered at the stalls set-up by Bangladesh traders, who brought their famous ethnic sarees, authentic fish items and sweet products.

The traders applauded the initiative by the state in fetching them good business.
