Transgenders took to the streets here on Monday to protest against a Tamil flick which they claim has portrayed them in poor light.

The sci-fi fantasy romatic thriller 'I' is a work of popular Indian, predominantly Tamil, director and producer, Shankar Shanmugham.

The transgenders demonstrated outside the offices of the Film Censor Board seeking deletion of offending scenes in the film. They also sought an apology from Shankar.

"In the movie 'I', transgenders have been shown in a demeaning manner against which we are staging a protest. The Censor Board should look into this. The board should include a member from the transgender community so that such scenes are not shown in the films in the future," said Transgenders Association convenor Banu.

Reportedly, the popular transgender make-up artist Ojas Rajani's sexual longing for the lead character of film Vikram has displeased the transgender community.

Shankar has sought police cover outside his residence as protestors were reportedly planning to stage a demonstration outside his house as well.
