Outgoing Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) director Anil Sinha bid adieu on Friday and said that the investigation agency under his tenure always tried level best to match up the country's expectations.

"There could be short comings, there could be defects although it is difficult to match the expectations of the people but we tried our best," he told the media.

Sinha also expressed satisfaction on the relationship between CBI and Media. He expressed gratification for the courts of the country for their decisions.

"I have immense respect for the courts of the country and media. We have the gratitude for the media and I always respected as we had never issues with you," he said.

Sinha left the decision of judgement with the people of the country and media.

"I wish to acknowledge with extreme gratitude the faith and the trust that I enjoyed in the country. As I cannot judge my own performance it is for you to judge," he added.

Sinha dedicated the successes and every achievement of CBI to his officers.

CBI director passed on the baton to the CBI Director Anil Sinha on Friday retired from the post handing over the baton to his second-in-command, Gujarat-cadre IPS officer Rakesh Asthana, as the government did not name any full-time chief.

Asthana, a Gujarat-cadre officer of 1984-batch, got elevated as the second-in-command in CBI two days ago when Special Director R K Dutta, who was among the frontrunners for the top post, was shifted to the Home Ministry as a Special Secretary.

The post of second special secretary was created for the first time in the ministry.
