Lauding the efforts of the Secret Service in successfully nabbing the intruder who had scaled the fences of the White House and entered the premises, President Donald Trump said Saturday that the suspect was disturbed.

"The service did a fantastic job. It was a troubled person. It was very sad," the President said to reporters at the Trump National Golf Club in Virginia.

Trump also told reporters that he was discussing military, economic and health care issues with Homeland Security Secretary John Kelly, Commerce Secretary Wilbur Ross, Treasury Secretary Steve Mnuchin and other senior officials, reports CNN.

"The economy is doing very, very well, and in general it's doing very well," Trump said. "We had a mess, a mess, and it's getting straightened out. Today we're also talking about health care, which is coming up."

On Friday, an intruder climbed a White House fence and gained access to the complex's south grounds before being arrested.

The incident occurred at about 11:38 p.m. while President Donald Trump was still at the White House.

The Secret Service on Saturday said the unidentified individual was carrying a backpack and was arrested near the White House residence without further incident.

No hazardous materials were found during a search of the backpack, the officials added.

The Secret Service also said a search of the south and north grounds of the White House complex found "nothing of concern to security operations.
