A turban exhibition, displaying turbans representing numerous communities of the country, was organised by family of late king Ranjithsinh Gaekwad in Vadodara on Saturday.

The exhibition, organised at the Fatehsinh Gaekwad Museum, sought to commemorate the 77th birth anniversary of the late king. The turbans on display at the exhibition were the ones collected by Ranjithsinh during his lifetime. Such was the king's fetish for turbans that he was pursuing a Ph.D on the subject, but unfortunately he expired before he could complete it.

The exhibition and the gallery were inaugurated by the queen of Jasdan and the daughter of the Ranjithsinh, Aloukika Raje. The entire royal family was present on the occasion.

Wife of the Ranjithsinh, Shubgini Devi Raje Gaekwad, said that there could have been no better way to inaugurate the gallery.

"There is a good variety in the headgears being displayed. There are headgears from more than four regions. There are turbans from Gujarat, Maharashtra, Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh. There are also headgears from tribal regions and the Parsi community. We have also taken pains to get samples of headgears from different traditions," said Shubgini Devi.

The exhibition, one of its kind in the country, saw artists from the state and across the country in attendance.
