Turkey has called an emergency meeting of NATO ambassadors in Brussels to discuss military action against the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS) and Partiya Karkeren Kurdistan (PKK) separatists.

Turkey called for the special meeting by invoking Article 4 of the NATO treaty, which calls for a meeting whenever any member state feels its independence and security is threatened.

The session is expected to take place on Tuesday, reported the BBC.

The move came as Turkey stepped-up air raids against ISIS militants in Syria and resumed strikes against PKK camps in northern Iraq, following recent attacks.

In an attack carried out by the ISIS, at least 32 people lost their lives in a suicide bombing near the Syrian border on July 20.

Another attack, claimed by the PKK, targeted Turkish police and was carried out in retaliation for the offensive launched by Turkish troops.
