Two Turkish security troops were killed and 24 others wounded in a suicide attack by Kurdish rebels in eastern Turkey on Sunday.

Militants of the Kurdistan Workers' Party, or PKK, rammed an explosives-laden tractor at a military police station near the town of Dogubayazit in Agri province, close to Turkey's border with Iran, the New York Times reported.

The tractor was said to have been carrying two tons of explosives that were detonated by a suicide bomber.

The wounded soldiers have been hospitalized, although there has been no word on their conditions.

Violence has flared in Turkey in the past week with the Turkish government conducting almost daily airstrikes at PKK bases in northern Iraq, shattering a fragile peace process launched in 2012 with the Kurds.
