U.S. airstrike kills al-Shabab intelligence chief in Somalia

A United States airstrike has killed the intelligence chief of the al-Shabab Islamist group named in Somalia, said officials.

According to BBC, the intelligence chief, Abdishakur, was responsible for suicide attacks, said security officials.

However, defence chiefs of the U.S. have not confirmed the death of the al Shabab leader.

U.S. official said in a statement that they had targeted a "senior leader" of al-Shabab in the area about 320 km west of the Somali capital Mogadishu.

U.S. state department said that it was "assessing the results of the operation".
