The United States military is paying a rent of $1,30,000 for a space in the Trump Tower in New York, despite the property not being used by President Donald Trump.
According to the General Services Administration (GSA), the U.S. military agreed to pay $180,000 for the last 20 days of April 2017 and $130,000 a month after that, reported the Wall Street Journal.
The amount being paid by the military is way more than the market rate of such spaces, which has made the tower, one of the most costly rentals of New York's Manhattan.
As per the GSA, the owner of the space was a private individual, unaffiliated to the Trump organisation; therefore, suggesting that the U.S. president is not financially benefitting from the lease.
Earlier in May, Pentagon moved forward with obtaining the lease in the Trump Tower, despite, the Democrats raising objections over it.
In a letter to the U.S. representative for California Jackie Speier, the Pentagon assured the Democrats that the lease would not financially benefit the president.
