The University Grants Commission has directed universities across the nation to incorporate history of the North East states as part of their curriculum.
Union Minister for Human Resource Development Smriti Irani informed the Lok Sabha that the UGC has requested that the following aspects of the North East be added to the syllabus: novels and short stories from the region; history of personalities who participated in the freedom movement; regular cultural exchanges between institutions in the North East and other areas; among others.
Irani further said that History, Geography and Political Science textbooks published by the National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT) are already carrying content of the region.
