UK excited over 'unprecedented' PM Modi visit, hopes for better ties with India

London, Nov. 12 (ANI): People in the United Kingdom are hugely excited over the fact that Prime Minister Narendra Modi is visiting the country and hope that the trip will result in improving bilateral ties between the two nations.

"We are very excited that he is here. This is an inspirational visit and I hope we are going to achieve amazing things. Prime Minister Narendra Modi's integrity, honesty, love of people and hard working nature is what impresses me. I think he is wonderful. I think the Indo-UK relationship is fantastic and it can only get better," a British national told ANI here.

"I think the visit is very wonderful and a very good opportunity for London and also for India to become united. It's a very good opportunity for me to be here today," an American told ANI here.

Meanwhile, Vijay Chauthaiwala, in-charge of foreign affairs department of the Bharatiya Janata Party, said modern India's new image for employment generation in the United Kingdom is developing.

"The event of Wembley will be unprecedented. I would request everyone to watch it. There are highs and lows in domestic politics. But when he (Modi) comes abroad, he represents the whole country," Chauthaiwala told ANI here.

Manoj Ladwa, the organiser of Friday's Wembley Stadium event where Prime Minister Modi will address Indian Diaspora, termed the visit as 'unprecedented'.

"Economic ties are absolutely important as India is the third largest investor in UK and UK is the second largest investor in India. The message of going to JLR, which is owned now by Tata, is that Indians are going global, and they are job makers not job takers," he told ANI here.

Prime Minister Modi, who arrived in the United Kingdom today, greeted members of the Indian community here, saying that the diaspora has played a key role in the strengthening of the India-UK ties.

"Thank you @Number10gov. We are very proud of the Indian diaspora in UK. Their role in strengthening India-UK ties is immense," Prime Minister Modi tweeted.

Prime Minister Modi, who is on a three-day bilateral visit, was received at the Heathrow Airport by the Indian High Commissioner to UK Rajan Mathai, UK's High Commissioner to India James Bevan along with several senior officials of the British Government and the military attaches of the Indian High Commission.

This is Prime Minister Modi's first visit to Britain since assuming office last year and is also the first Indian Prime Minister to visit the UK in almost a decade.

Prime Minister Modi will be given a Guard of Honour at Treasury Quadrangle, Kings Charles Street before being officially welcomed by his Britain counterpart David Cameron.
