The latest revelation of declassified reports indicate towards why the UK Ministry of Defence had reportedly shut down its 'UFO desk' back in 2009.
According to BBC, the MoD had shut down its 'UFO desk' and 'hotline' service because it served 'no defence purpose' and was taking the staff away from more important defence related activities.
The disclosure came in the National Archive Files about UFO sightings near UK landmarks including House of Parliament and Stonehenge, in the period dating 2007 and November 2009.
According to the report, Carl Mantell of the RAF's Air Command had suggested then defence minister Bob Ainsworth that UFO related work should be reduced, as it was consuming increasing resource but not producing significant defence output.
Mantell had further told Ainsworth that in more than 50 years, the UFO sighting reports have revealed nothing to prove the existence of extra terrestrial presence or military threat to the UK.
The disclosed files include reports in which people have mentioned strange claims such as someone 'living with an alien' for sometime, abduction of someone's dog and tent while camping, green, red and white lights seen over House of Parliament, and 'discoid' shapes in photographs of Stonehenge dating 2009.
The ministry had received an average of 150 reports in a year from 2000-2007 but it shot to 520 reports in 2009 when the ministry was about to close the service.
Author of 'The UFO Files', Dr. David Clarke said that making the last files of the UFO desk out in public domain has revealed the 'last pieces of the puzzle' and now people can draw their own conclusions about whether the 'truth' is in the revealed files or still out there, the report added.
