United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon has reportedly expressed the hope thatthe Government of Sri Lanka will ensure "the peaceful and credible conduct" of its upcoming presidential election.
The Secretary-General, according to the Lanka Page web site, spoke to Sri Lanka's External Affairs Minister Professor G L Peiris last week and reaffirmed the UN's continuous support for reconciliation, political dialogue and accountability as the country heads towards the January 8, 2015 election.
He emphasized the importance of inclusive participation of all Sri Lankan voters, including from minority communities, in the election process without any fear, a statement from his office said.
