UNESCO MGIEP in association with Government of Andhra Pradesh announces TECH 2018, an international conference which aims to showcase the role of games and digital learning in enabling a shift from "transmissive pedagogies" to "transformative pedagogies" to create peaceful and sustainable societies.
The three day event will be held from 15-17 November, 2018 at Novotel, Vizag City, Andhra Pradesh, India. UNESCO MGIEP is the first UNESCO the first category 1 institute in the Asia-Pacific region focused on mainstreaming socio-emotional learning in education systems.
Building on the success of TECH 2017, the UNESCO Mahatma Gandhi Institute of Education for Peace and Sustainable Development (MGIEP) will organize TECH annually for the next four years. TECH 2018 aims at drawing a blueprint for harnessing pedagogical possibilities opened up by digital technologies, in order to contribute to enabling a revolutionary shift in education from individual content acquisition to collaborative intelligence.
"TECH 2018 will be a global platform amalgamating experts and practitioners from the field of education technology and education for peace, sustainable development and global citizenship. We do not want it to be passed off as just another EdTech conference. We want the attendees to come with an aim to transform education for humanity and be the change they wish to see," said Dr. Anantha K. Duraiappah, Director, UNESCO MGIEP.
TECH 2018 will feature speakers from the fields of digital learning, artificial intelligence, games for learning and more. Stalwarts like Jessica Lindl, Global Head of Education at Unity Technologies; Dan Shefet, Lawyer at the Paris Court of Appeal; Nara Lokesh, Cabinet Minister for Information Technology, Panchayati Raj and Rural Development, Andhra Pradesh; Peter Vesterbacka, Co-founder at Lightneer, Fun Academy (Formerly Mighty Eagle at Angry Birds); Hilarie Bass, Immediate Past President, American Bar Association; Harri Ketamo, Founder & Chairman, Headai; Gregoire Borst, Professor of Developmental Psychology and Cognitive Neuroscience of Education, LaPsyDE are the keynote speakers for the event.
The event is open for experts and practitioners in the field of education technology and education for peace, sustainable development and global citizenship. It aims to create a holistic platform for the ministers of education, senior policy makers, education technology specialists, educators and teachers, curriculum designers, researchers, learners, students, game designers, and ed-tech exhibitors.
