With the Uttar Pradesh assembly polls approaching, the police have raided an illegal liquor making unit in Gorakhpur.
Acting on a tip off, the police seized at least 1,500 quintals of liquor and destroyed it yesterday.
With the leaders of various political parties announcing sops during the campaigning for the politically crucial state, the police have been on high alert to keep a check on illegal activities in the state.
According to reports, the liquor recovered by the police was to be distributed among the people so as to influence the upcoming elections.
Further investigation is on to nab the culprits.
This comes a week after at least 124 cartons of liquor were seized by the police in Moradabad during a routine checking.
Uttar Pradesh will go to polls on February 11 in seven phases.
