The alleged sexual assault of a minor girl in a Bangalore school took the Karnataka Assembly by storm on Friday, as the opposition cornered the state government on the issue.
Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MLAs protested against the Congress Government and demanded the resignation of the state home minister K J George in the wake of the incident.
"The law and order situation has always worsened here whenever the Congress has formed a government in the state. And due to this only that so many cases of rape are happening in the state," said BJP leader Basavaraj Bommai.
Bommai said the Congress is converting Karnataka into Uttar Pradesh as the criminal lot in both states does not fear the law and the police.
He demanded the resignation of state home minister K J George and also called for setting up of fast track courts for the trial of the rape cases.
Meanwhile, the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) workers protested outside the Bangalore school where the minor was sexually assaulted.
The workers allegedly tried to enter the premises of the school but they were held off by the police which had made elaborate security arrangements outside the school in the wake of protests by the parents.
The girl of Vibgyor School on Varthur-Haralur Road, near Kundalahalli Gate was allegedly raped on July 2. Since the incident, angered parents have vandalised the school premises demanding an explanation. They alleged that the school management was not addressing the issue with utmost urgency.
The minor girl was attacked and raped by two gym instructors when she had gone to washroom.
