UPSC allows extra two attempts for candidates appearing for Civil Services Exam

Union Public Service Commission has granted two extra attempts for the candidates appearing for the Civil Services Examination and has also relaxed the consequential age from this year onwards.

In a notification issued by the UPSC for the 2014 Civil Services Examination, it is stated, "Every candidate appearing for the examination, who is otherwise eligible, shall be permitted six attempts (two more than earlier four)."

"There is, however, no restriction on number of attempts by a candidates belonging to the Scheduled Caste (SC) and Scheduled Tribe (ST) categories," the statement added.

The UPSC has also given relaxation in the consequential age from this year onwards. A candidate between the age group of 21-32 years August 1, 2014 can take the exam.

"A candidate must have been born not earlier than August, 2, 1982 and not later than August 1, 1993 to appear for the exam," the statement noted.

The Civil Services Examination for the year 2014 will be held on August 24. The examination is conducted in three stages-preliminary, main and interview.
