The United States on Sunday expressed disappointment over Iraq's decision to expel all foreign troops from its territory and cutting off ties with the US-led international anti-terrorist coalition.
Washington has also urged Baghdad to reconsider the importance of the ongoing economic and security relationships between the two countries.
"The United States is disappointed by the action taken today in the Iraqi Council of Representatives. While we await further clarification on the legal nature and impact of today's resolution, we strongly urge Iraqi leaders to reconsider the importance of the ongoing economic and security relationship between the two countries and the continued presence of the Global Coalition to Defeat ISIS [the Islamic State terrorist group banned in Russia]," Sputnik quoted US State Department spokeswoman Morgan Ortagus as saying.
Iraq's Parliament has passed the resolution to cancel the United States' request for assistance from the US-led coalition which had been working with Baghdad to fight the (ISIL).
Iraqi Prime Minister Adel Abdul Mahdi-led government presented a resolution in the Parliament for the expulsion of foreign forces over the killing of Iran's senior military commander Qassem Soleimani.
The killing of Soleimani was carried out in Baghdad. Mahdi condemned US actions.
"The government commits to revoke its request for assistance from the international coalition fighting Islamic State due to the end of military operations in Iraq and the achievement of victory," the resolution read.
"The Iraqi government must work to end the presence of any foreign troops on Iraqi soil and prohibit them from using its land, airspace or water for any reason," it added.
